In the final men's lacrosse home game for the Spartans of Aurora University, AU defeated the visiting Crusaders of the University of Dallas 14-3.
AU jumped out to a quick lead after the opening face-off that was won by freshman midfielder
Andrew Miller. Spartan freshman
Alec Downing tallied the initial goal off an assist from freshman
Pat Diorka.
The Spartans went on to score three more times in the opening period with scoring tallies from
Jack Meachum, Downing again and
Jack Barry. Diorka and
Garret Rosiek had assists.
The AU offense maintained control and continued to score on the Crusaders as AU scored five goals in the second period to go up 9-0 before Dallas scored with 20 seconds to play to make it a 9-1 game at halftime.
Scoring in the second period for the Spartans was Diorka, Meachum, Downing (two goals) and freshman
Zachary Olsen. Rosiek had three assists in the second period with Diorka and
Justin Bose each having
one.
The third period played out much like the first two periods with the Spartans controlling the game and tempo and scoring five unanswered goals in the third period. Five different Spartans scored with Downing, Bose, Diorka,
Che'V-onn Harris and Barry tallying the goals. Rosiek and
Chase Peterson had assists.
AU emptied the bench in the fourth period and held the 14-1 lead until Dallas was able to score two goals in the final 4:35 of the game for the eventual 14-3 win for AU.
The win improved the Spartans record to 9-5 on the season and they are 4-2 in the MLC.
