Box Score The Aurora University men's basketball game increased their winning streak to seven straight games
Monday night against Blackburn College, defeating the visiting Battlin' Beavers 87-63.
Blackburn got off to a hot start in the first five minutes and managed to open a 20-12 lead over the Spartans. The Beavers made six of their first seven shots to begin the game but the Spartan defense took over from there. The swarming Spartans held Blackburn to 14-of-53 shooting the rest of the game.
AU was able to battle back and take the lead with a 14-0 run. Junior
Jordan Hester knocked down back to back jumpers in the middle of that run to give the Spartans the lead. When the run concluded the Spartans had taken a seven point lead at 32-25 with 5:31 remaining in the half.
The Spartans took their largest lead of the half when senior
Joel Iventosch knocked down a catch and shoot three-point field goal from the wing. The triple gave the Spartans a 13 point lead at 44-31.
When the half came to a close AU held a 47-38 lead. At the half Spartan junior
Scott Laskowski led all scorers with 14 points on six of eight shooting. The Beavers were led by Jon Lowry who had 11 points
on three three-point field goals. Blackburn's Brandon Adams led all rebounders with six.
In the first 10 minutes of the second frame AU was able to build a 19 point lead on consecutive lay-ups from sophomore
Kyle Pilmer and freshman
Kalmon Stokes.
In the final 10 minutes AU used consistent play from their bench to increase their lead to 24 and hold on for the 87-63 win.
Blackburn's Brandon Adams led all scorers and rebounders with 21 points and nine rebounds. The Spartans were led by
Scott Laskowski with 17 points and six rebounds. In addition to Laskowski,
Marious Lobdell chipped in 15 points,
Marquis Lobdell added 13 points and
Mike Bumber finished with 12 points on four three point field goals.
The win improves the Spartans overall record to 7-3. AU is in action again when they travel to Las Vegas for a holiday tournament. The Spartans play Presentation College at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20 and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21.
