Hosting the final matches of the 2012 home portion of the schedule, the Spartan men's tennis team defeated Lakeland College 9-0 before falling to Concordia University Wisconsin 5-4.
In the opening match (
box score) against Lakeland at Washington Middle School, AU jumped up early and coasted to the fairly easy 9-0 win. Spartan
Anthony Emmanouil continued his top play at No. 5 singles winning 6-1, 6-0 and then paired with
Brett Wilder in No. 2 doubles to win 8-0.
In the afternoon match (
box score) with Concordia Wisconsin, a well played battle ensued. AU fell behind early dropping the three doubles matches with AU's
Ricky Hernandez and
Matt Butler falling at No. 1 doubles 9-7.
Hernandez and Emmanouil along with Wilder and
Connor Propp captured their singles matches but AU fell just one win short of taking the match from the NAC leader.
With the match split, AU is now 4-8 overall and 4-3 in the NAC. Next action for the Spartan men's tennis team comes on Saturday,
April 28 when they travel to Concordia University Chicago (10 am) and Dominican University (2 pm) in River Forest, Ill.
