Spartan women win key regional soccer matchup

Wolfe tallied the game winning goal early in the 2nd half
Box Score The Aurora University Spartan women's soccer team hosted Concordia College Moorhead in a match-up of perennial regionally ranked teams Monday afternoon on Vago Field.

After a scoreless first-half, the Spartans exploded for three second half goals enroute to a 3-0 victory of the Cobbers.
AU controlled the tempo most of the day and out-shot the Cobbers 7-1 in the first half but could not tally the elusive goal.

After the Cobbers nearly scored, hitting the cross bar, the scoreless drought was ended 6:17 into the second half when junior Nicole Wolfe gathered her own rebound and beat the Concordia goalkeeper for her 10th goal of the season and a 1-0 AU lead.

Just three and a half minutes later the Spartans added to their lead when senior Brittany Roydhouse received a pass from Nicci Bermudes for the Spartans second goal on the day.

Bermudes would tally her 15th goal of the season at 77:18 when she knocked home a rebound off a shot from Lorelei Ritzert.

The Spartans and freshman goalkeeper Rachel Warnock maintained the shutout and AU's 13th win of the year (13-2).

Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Friday, October 25 when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. on Vago Field.
