Women's Soccer senior day capped off with 4-0 win

AU honored the nine graduating seniors at halftime
Box Score As the Aurora University Spartan women's soccer team hosted the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors Friday afternoon on Vago Field, AU also honored the senior class of 2013 before posting a 4-0 win over WLC.

AU led and maintained control of the contest from the opening kick-off, scoring the games first goal 9:03 into the match. Sophomore Nicci Bermudes tallied her 16th goal of the season.

A little over 11 minutes later, senior Debbie McLaughlin scored her first goal of the season and was assisted by Brittany Roydhouse.

The Spartans maintained pressure and possession for almost all of the half in Warrior territory, out shooting WLC 25-0. The Warrior goalkeeper had 11 first-half saves.

At the halftime intermission, with AU leading 2-0, the nine Spartan seniors,
Mariah Ziegenbein, Brittany Hirsch, Danielle Gillberg, McLaughlin, Kristina Umlauf, Katie Karbowski, Erin Aragon, Liz Wong (student assistant coach) and Jenee Lange were honored for their time and dedication to the program.

The second half played out much like the opening half with AU scoring two goals, both coming off the foot of Ziegenbein, her fourth and fifth of the season. Sophomore Hunter Coppes assisted on the fourth goal of the game.

On the day, AU out shot WLC 39-0 with 22 shots on goal.

With the win the Spartans are now 14-2 overall and 9-1 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Tuesday, October 29 when they travel to Elmhurst College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Elmhurst, Ill.
