The Aurora University Spartan Men's Track and Field competed on Saturday, February 16 at the Margaret Bradley Invitational at University of Chicago. AU finished third out of 14 teams with 91 points. “I think it is safe to say that today was a good day,” said graduate assistant Ryan Schroeder.
Freshman
Nick Williams finished second in the men's 55 meter dash with a final time of 6.53 seconds. Williams' time broke an AU school record. Following Williams in the final heat of the 55 meter dash was freshman Laron Wallace, with a time of 6.79 seconds. Wallace's final time placed him fifth. Fellow freshmen
Trent Telfer and
Wade Robinson finished with times of 6.85 seconds and 6.95 seconds. Telfer and Robinson's final times placed them seventh and eighth, respectively. “There was some serious competition out here today,” said Williams.
Williams later placed first in the long jump, as well as the triple jump with finals marks of 6.63 meters and 13.25 meters. Telfer would later finish second overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.53 seconds. “I really just wanted to win,” said Telfer.
Sophomore
Loren Iwanicki finished tied for first in the high jump with a height of 1.91 meters. Freshman
Brian Rudelich would follow Iwanicki with a height of 1.81 meters. Rudelich's final height placed him fifth. “Brian and I went to high school together,” said Iwanicki. “I am thrilled to have him here competing with me.”
AU's men's 4x400 meter relay would finally finish the meet. The relay consisting of Williams,
Nico Gonzalez,
Kyle Kayzar, and
Alex Duncan would finish with a time of 3:28.77, placing them first overall.
Next action for the Spartan men's track and field team comes on Saturday, February 23 when they travel to University of Wisconsin-Parkside for the Northern Athletics Conference meet. Meet time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m
