AU men finish third in NAC Championships

The 4x100 relay team brought home a NAC Championship
The Aurora University men's track and field team came in third place at this weekends Northern Athletics Conference outdoor track and field championships. The Spartans finished the 22 event meet with 144 points.

The Spartans were led by freshman Alex Duncan who won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.44. Kalmon Stokes, also a freshman, took first place in the 400 meter hurdles, posting a time of 55.21.

AU's 4 x 100 relay team of Laron Wallace, Wes Heniff, Matt Snyder, and Nick Williams also took first place. The relay team beat out second place MSOE by just three tenths of a second with a time of 42.93

Juan Mercado brought home a an individual championship for his first place finish in the decathlon coming in the a score  of 4574.

In the the high jump Loren Iwanicki broke the AU school record with a height of 1.98 meters (6' 6") whichwas good for second place in the meet.
 
Receiving third place finishes were freshman Tyron Pitchford (100m and 200m), sophomore Nick Cole (steeplechase), and the 4 x 400 relay team of Duncan, Stokes, Nico Gonzales and Alex Hoyle. Pitchford tied the school record for the 100 meter dash with a 10.99 time.

In addition to those with top three finishes 19 Spartans were able to score points in their events in order to help the team's cause.

Next action for the Spartan men's track and field team comes on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10 at the Dr. Keeler Last Chance Meet hosted by North Central College. Meet time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Naperville, Ill.
