The Aurora University Men's Soccer hosted the Raiders of Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match up on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The first half was very physical, MSOE controlled the tempo but AU's defense and goalie
Zach McFarland was able to keep the game in control.
Â
After a turnover from the Aurora's offense, the Raiders offense was able to squeak past the Spartans defense and score to bring the score to 1-0 in favor of the Raiders with just over 15 minutes left in the half.
Â
The Spartans and Raiders went back in forth the first half but neither would grab a goal. At the half the Spartans trailed 1-0.
Â
The second half resembled much of the first, in the 52nd minute MSOE would score again on a corner kick to extend the lead to 2-0.
Aurora would have a few chances, one coming on a penalty kick that
Steven Soderstrom put just wide.
Â
MSOE would be granted a penalty kick with two minutes left but McFarland would stop the chance. The Spartans would end up falling to MSOE 2-0.
With the loss, AU is now 8-4-2 overall and 3-3 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan men's soccer team comes on Saturday, October 18 when they host Marian University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois.
