AU baseball splits NACC doubleheader with Dominican

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Aurora University baseball team took to the road for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Dominincan University at the Schaumburg Boomer's Stadium. AU won game won 9-5 and lost in game two 9-7.

The Spartans did score once in the third inning with Oymaian singling and scoring on a single from Flores. Dominican added two more runs off Fox in the third, leaving AU down 5-1.

In the fourth inning, AU scored twice with Monson hitting a one out double and he scored on a two-out single from
came on in relief of Fox and surrendered a two run single that now saw the Spartans down three at 9-6.

In the ninth inning, AU saw themselves in a familiar situation, runners in scoring position. Turner reached via hit by pitch with one out and with two outs, Walczak drew a walk. Flores singled to center to bring Popovich to the plate with the potential go ahead run. Dominican made a pitching change as White came on to run for Flores. Popovich was aggressive at the plate, fouling off the first two pitches he saw before hitting a fly ball to right field that was caught to end the game.

In game two, AU hammered out 16 hits but left 15 runners on base in the 9-7 loss.

With the split, AU is now 8-17 overall and 4-6 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan baseball team comes on Sunday, April 13 when they host Benedictine University. Game one is set for 12:00 p.m. at Solfisburg Park in Aurora, Ill.
