The Aurora University men's tennis team opened the 2014 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday, April 5 with home matches with Lakeland College and Concordia University Wisconsin. AU defeated Lakeland 9-0 then fell to Concordia 6-3.

The Spartans got off to a great start on the day, sweeping the doubles matches that led off the contest. Doubles partners
Ricky Hernandez and
Brian Koski won at No. 1 8-5, Blain Hrovat and
Jake Lipka won at No. 2 8-1 and
Matt Butler and
Phillip Molley won at No. 3 8-0.
The doubles sweep carried momentum over into singles action. Hernandez won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Koski won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, Hrovat won by forfeit due to injury at No. 3, he led 3-0 in the first set at the time. Butler won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4, Lipka won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Michael Hohm won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

The second match of the day started off well for AU once again as the Spartan doubles partners gave AU a 2-1 lead. Hrovat and Lipka (won 9-7) and Butler and Molley (injury forfeit) won the two matches in doubles.
Singles action did not have the same success as doubles though with Concordia holding a 5-1 advantage to win the match. Hrovat was the lone Spartan singles victor as he won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
With the split, AU is now 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan men's tennis team comes on
Saturday, April 12 when they travel to Concordia University Chicago (10 am) and Dominican University (2 pm) in River Forest, Ill.
