For just the second time in the 2014 season the Aurora University women's soccer team took to the road. Sunday afternoon found the Spartans in Kenosha, Wisconsin to take on Carthage College. Behind strong defense and the usual offensive out put from junior
Nicci Bermudes, AU defeated Carthage 2-0.
Bermudes gave the Spartans an early lead when she scored her sixth goal of the season 16:06 into the game.Bermudes would finish the day with nine shots with the team having 17 and she had three of the four shots on goal.
With an early lead, the AU defense of
Christine Rohling,
Mariah Stacy,
Hunter Coppes and
Kaitlin Im Hof controlled the action in front of goalkeeper
Rachael Warnock.
The teams went into halftime with the Spartans leading 1-0.
The second half played out almost identical to the opening 45 minutes with Bermudes striking for the games second goal at 65:42. Senior
Lisa Bajkowski had the assist on the play.
Warnock and her defense in front of her maintained the shutout for the remaining 24:18 to keep the 2-0 victory.
With the win, AU is now 3-3 overall. Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on
Wednesday, September 17 when they travel to Wheaton College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Wheaton, Illinois.
