The Aurora University women's soccer team shutout the Cougars of Concordia University on beautiful
Wednesday afternoon 7-0, their fourth shutout of the season.
As the AU defense limited the Cougars offense, the AU offense led by junior
Nicci Bermudes rattled off seven goals with four coming from Bermudes who now has 17 on the season.
The first Spartan goal came just 11 minutes into the game where
Lisa Bajkowski was able to find Bermudes for the first of what would be four goals on the day. Four minutes later
Brittany Roydhouse snuck one past the outstretched goalie to bring the Spartans lead to 2-0 with 30 minutes left in the first-half.
The Spartans would battle offensively and convert on another pass from Bajkowski to Bermudes to extend the Spartans lead to 3-0 at 28:59. Freshman
Alicia Rotolo and
Nicci Bermudes would score again before the end of the first half bringing the Spartan lead to 5-0.
AU came out of the halftime intermission just as they had started the game, on the offensive. Kaitin Im hof would join the group of scorers when she beat a defender and scored on outstretched goalie arms at 59:10.
Only 1:17 later Bermudes capped off the scoring for the day with her fourth and final tally. She played the header off a pass from sophomore
Alisha Oseguera.
AU goalkeepers
Rachael Warnock and
Caitlin DeRuiter combined for the shutout win with Warnock grabbing the lone save of the game.
With the win, AU is now 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on
Saturday, September 27 when they travel to Lakeland College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
