On Saturday, January 24 when the Aurora University basketball teams take on Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader, the Spartan basketball programs will be hosting a special event to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Spearheaded by AU men's basketball assistant coach
Lance Robinson, who has first-hand experience on the severity of MS, the day's events are being held in honor of his mother Diane Robinson who battled the disease and sadly passed in August 2014.
"During my recruiting process coming out of high school, my mom had an intuition that I should attend Aurora University after her phone conversation with Coach Lancaster before I even met him, talked to him or visited campus. AU had a special place in her heart from the start," said Robinson who was a member of the AU men's program from 2006-2010. "She then became the biggest Spartan fan as she would repeatedly drive three and a half hours plus depending on road or home games throughout my career and into my coaching career. In my four-years at AU, she only missed five of my 115 games and she became our team Mom. She was excited about the Thornton Gymnasium renovation and couldn't wait to get to a game this year. Although, she isn't physical watching the game from center court in new and improved Thornton anymore, she still has the best seat in the house."
