Spartan women drop NACC home contest

The Aurora University women's basketball team hosted the Raiders from Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday afternoon in Thornton Gymnasium and the Spartans were defeated 67-51.

The Spartans started off the game trading possessions with the Raiders and would take a three-point lead off of a three-pointer from junior guard Bethany Dorrington. Over the next few minutes, the Spartans and Raiders continued  to trade baskets.

With 14:16 on the game clock, AU junior Shannon Koski hit a three-pointer to give the Spartans the lead, a lead that would be the last of the game for the Spartans.

With the game tied (10-10) with 13:59, MSOE made a run that the Spartans were unable to overcome. When the 21-6 run ended, MSOE led 31-16 with just over five minutes to play in the first half.

The Spartans did answer with a quick 5-0 run to cut the lead down to 10 before heading into halftime down 12 at 35-23. Dorrington led AU and all scorers with 11 first-half points.

In the second-half, the teams basically traded baskets throughout with AU never getting closer than eight points of the MSOE lead. AU cut the lead to eight (58-50) with 5:57 to play after trailing by 12 just minutes earlier. But the Spartans went cold from the field the rest of the game, losing 67-51.

With the loss, AU is now 5-14 overall and 5-9 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 when they host Dominican University.
