Spartan women upended in overtime by MSOE

The Aurora University women's soccer team hosted the Raiders of Milwaukee School of Engineering in a key Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match-up on Wednesday afternoon on Vago Field. The exciting contest found its way into overtime with the Raiders pulling off the stunning upset of the Spartans 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE gets on the scoreboard first with a goal by Sara Travia at the 23:34 mark in the first half. She back healed the ball past AU defenders after Spartan goalkeeper Caitlin deRuiter made a sprawling save.
A third of the way through the second half, Spartan Hannah Scahill tallied her first AU goal with an  assist from Alisha Oseguera at 60:07.
Almost immediately following the AU goal, the Raiders regained the lead with another goal from Travia at 61:30.
Scahill ties the game with her second goal at 77:00, being assisted from Beth Robbins.
In overtime, the Raiders goal by Aly Loepfe with an assist from Travia won the game at the 94:56 mark.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
An Aurora throw in in the first-half carries untouched into the goal but is waved off as a goal due to being untouched. After a discussing, AU Head Coach Troy Edwards was awarded a red card.
AU had seven corner kicks to MSOE's three.
MSOE out shot Aurora 16 to 13.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS                                                      
Nicci Bermudes and Hannah Scahill both had four shots for the Spartans.
Scahill led the team with two goals, her first two as a Spartan.
Robbins and Oseguera both recorded an assist.
deRuiter had seven saves on the day.
 
FOR THE FOES
Travia led the Raiders with two goals and an assist.
Travia had seven shots to lead MSOE.
Mary McFee had four saves.

Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Saturday, October 10 when they host Dominican University on Senior Day. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Vago Field.
