Spartans lose to St. Mary's 5-3

The Aurora University hockey team dropped the second game of a two game set at St. Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota. The game was closely played with a late empty net goal from the home team pushing the final score to 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Four of the games eight goals were on a power play with a fifth goal coming in an empty net scenario.
SMU opened up the scoring at 6:00 of the first.
Spartan Andrew Bergquist tallied a power play goal to tie tie the game. Tim Santopoalo and Anthony Pnewski assisted.
The second period saw each team score a goal with SMU getting a power play goal before AU tied the game on Raurie Petrich's first goal of the year. He was assisted by Connor Quinn.
SMU scored twice in the first 7:09 of the third period, one on a power play to take a 4-2 lead.
The Spartans cut into the lead with a power play goal from Ron Lingren and an assist to Gregory Sauers.
AU pulled Jared Rutledge late in the period but SMU was able to tally an empty net goal for a 5-3 lead.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Jared Rutledge had 41 saves.
Andrew Bergquist had one goal.
Ron Lingren had one goal.
Raurie Petrich had one goal.
Tim Santopoalo, Anthony Pnewski, Gregory Sauers and Connor Quinn had assists.
 
FOR THE FOES
Jake Tugnutt had 23 saves.
Bob Kinne had three goals and one assist.
Martin Gruse had three assists.
