The Aurora University Spartans traveled to the rival Eagles of Benedictine University Saturday. The Spartans jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead but could not hang on and fell to the Eagles 32-24.

HOW IT HAPPENEDOn the second play of the game, AU ran an end around with
Danny Logiurato going 66 yards for the touchdown.
An interception from
Anthony Doory set up a 44 yard field goal from
Zac Mirabelli.
On the Spartans third possession of the first quarter, AU scored again, this time a 47 yard strike from
Geron Rogers to Logiurato.
Benedictine scored twice in the second quarter but missed both point after attempts. AU led 17-12 at halftime.
Midway through the third quarter, BU took an 18-17 lead.
An interception from
Kam Dawtyne set up AU first and goal at the BU two. Another trick play, this time with Rogers connecting with offensive lineman (former tight end) Pat DeVries for a six yard touchdown. AU led 24-18.
On the first possession of the 4th quarter, BU took a 25-24 lead.
Late in the 4th, BU added another score for the final 32-24 tally.
BEYOND THE BOXWith his eight catches,
Danny Logiurato set a new AU single season record for catches, he now has 52 surpassing the previous record of 50.
The 44-yard field goal by
Zac Mirabelli ties an AU record set by Matt Sheridan in 1998 against Benedictine.
FOR THE SPARTANSDanny Logiurato had eight catches for 105 yards and one touchdown, and one carry for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Jonathan Stokes had 12 rushes for 70 yards.
Geron Rogers was 14 of 31 passing for 135 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Kam Dawtyne had 11 tackles and one interception on the day.

Ben Medlicott and
Niko Delacruz had eight tackles.
FOR THE FOESRyan Sample was 18 of 38 for 292 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Derek Miles had 14 rushes for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
Elijah Walker had five catches for 125 yards and one touchdown.
