Spartans tally two third period goals to tie Finlandia

The Aurora University Spartan hockey team took on Finlandia University in game two of the two game series on Sunday afternoon in Hancock, Michigan. After falling behind 2-0 through two periods, the Spartans scored two third period goals to force overtime before finishing in a 2-2 tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Finlandia scored a power play goal at 13:59 of the first period.
The home team added a goal early in the second period for a 2-0 lead.
The Spartans went to the power play early in the third period and struck quickly. Seven seconds into the extra man opportunity, Gregory Sauers lit the lamp with assists to Michael Mikulan and Tim Santopoalo.
At 13:32 of the third, Spartan Tom Greene tied the contest with his second goal in as many games. He was assisted by Andrew Bergquist and Nick DeSimone.
Finlandia out shot AU 4-3 in the overtime but neither team could scratch across a tally.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Tom Greene had the game tying goal.
Gregory Sauers had a power play goal.
Michael Mikulan, Tim Santopoalo, Andrew Bergquist and Nick DeSimone had one assist each.
Jared Rutledge had 30 saves in the tie.
 
FOR THE FOES
Avery Huibregste and Derek Chaillier each had one goal.
Francis Cote, Travis Cornwell and Thomas Clayton each had an assist.
Matt Young had 23 saves.

Next action for the Spartan men's hockey team comes on Friday, November 13 when they host St. Norbert College. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois.
