Spartans fall in historical outdoor game

The Aurora University hockey team set some program history as they competed in a pair of first's on Wednesday night in Lake Forest, Illinois at The Winter Club. AU played the first NCAA men's hockey game between the only two men's programs in Illinois and also played the first outdoor game in program history. AU fell to Lake Forest 6-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lake Forest led after one period 2-0.
The hosts added to the lead in the second period, scoring three time including twice in a 34 second span.
AU tallied a power play goal at 13:09 in the third period. Ron Lindgren got the goal with assists from Gregory Sauers and Rihards Marenis.
Lake Forest added one more goal in the third for a final score of 6-1.

FOR THE SPARTANS
Ron Lindgren had a power play goal.
Gregory Sauers and Rihards Marenis had one assist each.
Luke Thompson had 15 saves in the loss.

FOR THE FOES
Billy Kent had two goals and one assist.
Drew Cleereman had one goal and one assist.
Leo Podolsky had 22 saves in the win.

Next action for the Spartan men's hockey team comes on Friday, January 8, 2016 when they host Adrian College. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois.
