Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

AU women fall despite strong defensive effort

With the regular season schedule winding down, the Aurora University women's basketball team took on the Edgewood College Eagles needing a win to move into the NACC women's tournament field. The Spartans held the Eagles to 25-percent shooting in the game but fell 46-42.

The first-half saw both teams pester each other on the defensive end of the ball with AU taking an 18-17 lead into halftime. The low scoring half saw AU hold Edgewood to 20-percent shooting from the field but could only must up a 23.1-percent themselves. AU junior Shannon Koski had 10 points and freshman Morgan Ricketts had 12 rebounds.

The second-half saw the teams share leads over the first 10 minutes and with 10 minutes to play, the game was tied 30-30. Over the next 3:30, the home Eagles ran off a 9-0 spurt to take a 39-30 lead.

AU did battle their way back down the stretch but got no closer than three when junior Molly Rosenow hit a three with 10 seconds to play. A free throw by Edgewood made the final score 46-42.

AU out rebounded Edgewood 54 to 37 led by 19 from Ricketts. Koski led AU in scoring with 18 points.

With the loss, AU is now 7-17 overall and 7-12 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 when they host Alverno College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium. With a win and loss from Marian University, the Spartans would be the No. 8 seed in the NACC Tournament.
