AU men set records at Tadd Metzger

The Aurora University men's track and field team competed at the Tadd Metzger Invitational hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin on January 30, 2015.

In the 55 meter dash freshman Leo Okeke took first-place in finals with a time of 6.53 tying the AU record. Others who join him in the dash were freshman Camerhon Guyton (sixth- 6.72), freshman Desmond Barrett (23rd- 7.02), junior Reiner Ebarle (28th- 7.08), junior Daniel Ance (32nd- 7.12), freshman Terrance Nicholas (37th- 7.40), freshman Jonathan Martinez (39th- 7.46) and freshman Asante Hawkins (42nd- 7.83).

Freshman Bobby Cooks won the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.75 in finals breaking the AU and tying the NACC record. Coleman joined him in finals placing sixth with a time of 8:25.

Okeke followed his performance with a run in the 200 meter dash and took sixth with a time of 23.17. Other Spartans who competed were Barrett (21st- 24.48), sophomore Taylor Coleman (22nd- 24.50), freshman Mark Rudelich (36th- 25.54), Ance (37th- 25.61), freshman Brandon Davis (41st- 26.17) and Nicholas (44th- 26.63).

Freshman Jaylen Robinson finished ninth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.06. Others to run the 400 meter were senior Cody McSorely (18th- 55.13) and freshman Sean Ganey (23rd- 57.26). The 800 meter was ran by junior Alex Duncan (fourth- 1:59), senior Roberto Gonzalez (10th- 2:03.73), freshman TJ Pitcock, senior Matt Swanson (15th- 2:09.23), sophomore Ben Ervin (16th- 2:09), freshman Dominique (17th- 2:11.27), sophomore Kun Deng (19th- 2:22.37) and sophomore Ryan Fromm (2:23.30).

The 1000 meter run had sophomore Matt Meyers place third with a time of 2:37.71. Other Spartans were sophomore D.J. Wolfram (11th- 2:46.32) and sophomore Nick Shaw (14th- 3:08.15). Meyer placed eighth in the mile run with a time of 4:28.12. Also competing were freshman Anthony Barrios (15th- 4:31), junior Calvin Robinson (16th- 4:34.08), senior Pete Jaros (4:34.88), freshman Dylan Schatz (5:13.98), freshman Aaron Lehman (38th- 5:15.74) and sophomore Cody McDougall (5:31.95).

Junior Nick Quiroz won the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:06.37. Other Spartans to compete in the race were senior Nick Cole (sixth- 9:18.53) and sophomore Dan Morgan (10th- 9:32.46). Senior Brandon Miller ran the 5000 meter and placed sixth with a time of 16:54.56.

The Aurora 'A' 4 x 400 meter relay team consisted of Robinson, Duncan, Cooks and Barrios. They placed seventh with a time of 3:37.90.

Senior Loren Iwanicki placed sixth in the high jump at a height of 1.90 meter. Other jumpers included freshman Nick Majka (eighth- 1.90m), freshman Mark Rudelich (ninth- 1.80m), junior Brian Rudelich (ninth- 1.80), sophomore Spencer Littlefield (12th- 1.80m) and freshman Frank Furco (13th- 1.75m).

In the pole vault freshman Leonard Becerra took fourth with a height of 4.00 meters. Others who vaulted were Ganey (sixth- 3.85m) and freshman Brandon Davis (sixth 3.70m).

Cooks took second in the long jump jumping 6.77 meter. Other jumpers at the meet were freshman Deon Conway (fifth- 6.48), freshman De'Angelo Cross (17th- 5.76m), Iwanicki (21st- 5.58m), sophomore Mario Tinsley (24th- 5.49m), junior Vic Munto-Mosi (28th- 5.23m) and freshman Jonathan Martinez (29th- 5.18m).

In the triple jump freshman Rudelich took eighth with a jump of 12.75m. Others who jumped were Cross (ninth- 12.66m), Conway (10th- 12.58m) and Munto-Musi (13th- 11:57m).

Freshman Eddie Gonzalez took 17th in the shot put with a throw of 11.13m. Other throwers were senior Pietro Alfano (18th- 11.03), senior Thomas Rose (21st- 10.59m), freshman Ed Lewis (22nd- 9.88m) and freshman Cody Murtaugh (25th- 9.14m).

In the weight throw Gonzalez took 15th with a throw of 12.87m. Other Spartan throwers were Brandon Pichen (17th- 12.05), Josiah Douglas (22nd- 10.60m), Lewis (23rd- 9.87), Alfano (25th- 8.86m), Ebarle (26th- 8.47m), Murtaugh (27th- 8.39m) and freshman Dalton Hargrave (28th- 8.25m).

Next action for the Spartan track and field team comes on Friday, February 13 when they travel to the Chicagoland Women's Indoor Championships at North Central College. Meet time is set for 5:00 p.m. in Naperville, Illinois.
