The Aurora University women's basketball Spartans hosted the visiting Sabres of Marian University on
Saturday,
February 7, for Aurora's Senior Day. In honor of the day graduating class of 2014-2015. AU seniors
Neely Marks and
Rachel Rivera were honored for their contributions to Aurora University prior to tip off.

The Spartans drained a three-point shot from junior
Shannon Koski on their first possession to get the scoring started. From here on the Spartans battled as the visiting Sabres went on a 9-2 run to pull their lead 9-5 only five minutes into the first half.

The Spartans fought back refusing to be beaten on their Senior day and took the lead back 10-9 at 12:39 in the first half. The Spartans then took control of the game, never losing the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Spartans built a half high seven point lead with just under two minutes to play at 27-20.
As the first half came to a close the Spartans led 27-21. The first half was led by multiple three-point shots from AU junior
Bethany Dorrington who recorded 15 points in the first half, while Koski had seven.

As the second half began the Spartans came out of the locker room on fire from the field and quickly built to a 10 point lead, 33-23. Marks took over at times in the second half as she built the Spartans lead further scoring multiple layup's and recording several rebounds.
Over the first 6:38 of the second-half the Spartans went on a 16-4 run to lead by 18 at 43-25. Rivera scored multiple points in the Spartans run and contributed as the Spartans took control in the second-half.
But the visiting Sabres refused to be sent home easily and began to mount a comeback with a 16-7 run late in the half to cut the Spartan lead to single digits at nine (50-41). The Spartans ramped up the defense and got key rebounds by Marks and freshman
Morgan Ricketts to shut down Marian never letting them within those nine points.

The Spartans coasted to an easy victory over the visiting Sabres and finished the game leading 64-55. In the contest
Shannon Koski scored 22 points, followed by Dorrington with 18. Marks finished with 10 points and seven rebounds while Rivera had four points.
With the win, AU is now 7-15 overall and 7-10 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on
Wednesday, February 10, 2015 when they travel to Concordia University Chicago. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in River Forest, Illinois.
