The Aurora University men's lacrosse team opened the 2015 Midwest Lacrosse Conference schedule Wednesday night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, defeating Milwaukee School of Engineering 22-5.
AU jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead with senior
Garret Rosiek starting his high scoring night off with a flurry scoring the first and fourth AU goal. He was assisted by
Trevor McNamara on the opening goal and fellow senior
Max Obriecht on the fourth. Rosiek then assisted on the second goal of the night as Obriecht blistered the back of the net. Senior
Nolan Miller scored the third goal with McNamara picking up his second assist.
After MSOE got on the scoreboard with 50 seconds remaining in the first quarter, AU tallied two goals in the final 34 seconds.
Bailey Smith scored at 34 seconds with Obriecht assisting and with just three seconds left, Miller added his second of the quarter with an assist from
JK Torres.
The second quarter was all Spartans as they scored seven goals, pushing their scoring run to 9-0. Rosiek assisted on the first three goals of the quarter from
Zach Henry, Torres and Smith. Miller solidified his hat trick with an assist from Obriecht, McNamara and Rosiek scored the next two goals and assisted on each others goals and
Joe Ebel finished the first half scoring.
AU continued the scoring run to start the second half, scoring three times to begin the thir quarter.
Danny Loyall scored at 9:53 with an assist from
Steven Ruffin,
JD Kettle then scored with an assist from
Dustin Rhodes and Obriecht capped off the 12-0 run with an unassisted goal at 6:46.
MSOE ended the AU run with a goal at 2:51 but just 14 seconds later, Smith picked up his hat trick with
Dan Gould assisting on the tally.
The fourth quarter saw the Spartans outscore MSOE 5-3 for the eventual 22-5 win. Torres (unassisted), Austin Henson (
Kyle Lowy), Loyall (Obriecht),
Corey Segall (unassisted) and
Jeremy Kartel (
Tanner Lerdahl) rounded out the AU scoring on the night.
Cameron Brooks earned the win, playing the first half with four saves and allowing one goal, while
Brian Richter played the second half, allowing four goals with seven saves
With the 22-5 win, AU is now 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the MLC. Next action for the Spartan men's lacrosse comes on Satur
day, March 28 when they host Whittier College (11:00 a.m.) and Fontbonne University (2:00 p.m.) on Vago Field.
