The Aurora University women's lacrosse team returned to Vago Field Saturday afternoon against the Muskingum College Fighting Muskies, coming off of a tough loss 24 hours earlier, the Spartans were looking for redemption. With a tight contest for the first 19 minutes, the Spartans kicked in to another gear and out ran the Muskies 19-8.

Lexie Wright began the scoring for AU in the first minute scoring at 29:14 in the half. Wright quickly followed her first goal with a second under a minute later at 28:30 and a 2-0 AU lead.

The Fighting Muskies, however, refused to be stopped and responded with three consecutive goals and a 3-2 deficit for the Spartans 10 minutes into the game. The Spartans answered with two goals, one from
Kenny Hughes and another from Wright, with Wright collecting an early hat trick. The score was 5-4 in favor of the Spartans with 13:58 left in the half.
Muskingum scored twice around a goal from Spartan
Rachel Cochran to have a tie game with exactly 11 minutes left to play. In the final 11 minutes of the first-half the Spartans marched to a commanding lead, scoring six goals before half concluded. Scoring for AU was Hughes, three times with assists from Wright (twice) and
Andrea Colford,
Danielle Morgan, Colford and
Chloe Madison (with three seconds to play). The score at half was 11-5 in favor of the Spartans.Â

As action restarted on Vago Field for the second half, AU was looking to continue their first half dominance. Cochran struck the first blow of the second half scoring in under three minutes of play, 12-5. Goals continued to follow as Wright added a goal to the Spartan's lead before Muskingum ended a eight goal streak at 25:18.

The Spartans continued to press their lead with a pair of goals each from
Taylor Arcivar and Colford gave AU a commanding lead with (17-6) 14:04 to play.

The Muskies and Spartans finished the game strong, each scoring two additional goals in the final minutes with AU goals coming from Colford and Wright.
When the final horn sounded, AU was victorious 19-8. Notable Spartans included Wright with five goals and three assists on the day followed by Hughes and Colford with four goals each with Hughes adding two assists and Colford one.Â
With the win, AU is now 3-4 overall. Next action for the Spartan women's lacrosse comes on Tuesday, March 31 when they travel to Concordia University Wisconsin. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. in Mequon, Wisconsin.
