The Aurora University baseball team dropped both ends of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, falling 12-8 and 10-4.
Game one saw the Spartans jump out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning but a five run third inning for Dominican found AU eventually trailing 7-4 heading to the bottom of the fifth. In that fifth inning, AU put together five hits including two doubles to score three times and tie the game at 7-7.
But Dominican would score in three of the final four innings and despite a
Danny Walczak home run in the eighth inning, the Spartans fell 12-8. The Spartans pounded out 15 hits in the game but could not quiet the Stars offense.
Tanner Oymaian went three for five on the game with two runs scored and
Adam Lipscomb was three for four with a double and two runs batted in.
AU once again grabbed an early lead in game two, scoring a run in each of the first three innings for a 3-1 lead at the end of three. But the Spartan bats went cold while Dominican added nine runs in the fourth through seventh innings to take a 10-3 lead.
The Spartans added a run in the ninth but did not have enough to complete the come back attempt. Jeff Gersch finished the game going three for five with a double and one run scored.
With the pair of losses, AU is now 15-11 overall and 5-5 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan baseball team comes on
Sunday, April 12, 2015 when they travel to Benedictine University in a NACC doubleheader. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m. in Lisle, Illinois.
