In a rain delay that spanned nearly 72 hours, the Aurora University softball team traveled back to Alverno College on Monday evening to finish the contest which ended in a 13-0 win in five innings.
Leading 13-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning on Friday when the rain forced a delay, the game was resumed with Alverno runners on first and second and no outs. Spartan pitcher
Natalie Zanella made quick work of the Inferno, getting a fly-out before a walk loaded the bases. But two outs followed for the complete game shutout and AU's 22nd win in the NACC for a perfect 22-0 record.
The Spartans did all the scoring on Friday, tallying runs in all five innings. AU scored once in the first, five times in the second, four in the third, once in the fourth and two more runs in the fifth for 13 runs on 15 hits and were aided by four Alverno errors.
Larkin Langston and
Mandey Shrader each went four for four with Langston hitting two home runs and a double while driving in six runs and scoring three more. Shrader had a double, three runs scored and two runs batted in.
Logan Cahill,
Steph Starr and
Amie Raynor all went two for four with Starr hitting two doubles and Raynor having one. Cahill drove in two runs and Raynor one, while Starr and Cahill scored one run each.
