The Aurora University baseball team dropped both ends of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon, falling 13-5 and 7-0.
Game one got off to a great start for the Spartans as they scored four runs with three of the four coming with two outs. Jeff Gersch walked to lead off the inning and scored on a
Dillon Popovich ground out.
Adam Lipscomb then singled to score
Tanner Oymaian and three batters later, Lipscomb and
Mike Cherven scored on a two-run single from
Sean Stevens.
The remainder of the game was unkind to the Spartans though as the defense committed five errors, a couple at critical times. AU would add a run without a hit in the sixth but would fall by the 13-5 final.
Kyle Manske was the tough luck loser, dropping his record to 3-1.
Game two did not have the outcome the Spartans hoped to bounce back with as they were held to five hits by Concordia starting pitcher Dylan Gausman while AU starting pitcher
Tyler Findlay allowed four runs in five plus innings of work. A two-run home run in the first proved to be all the scoring the contest would need.
With the losses, AU is now 15-9 overall and 5-3 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan baseball team comes on
Saturday, April 11, 2015 when they host Dominican University in a NACC doubleheader. Game one is set for 12:00 p.m. at Solfisburg Park in Aurora, Illinois.
