Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's lacrosse heads to MWLC Tournament Final with win over Beloit

Playing in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament for the first time in the program's third season of existence, the Aurora University women's lacrosse team captured the program's first tournament win with a 10-6 victory over Beloit College on Friday evening.

The teams played to a very low scoring first half that saw AU's Andrea Colford score the first two goals but Beloit then answered with two of their own and with just under one minute to play in the first-half, the score was still 2-2.

With 40 seconds left and a player down due to a yellow card, AU and Danielle Morgan scored to take a 3-2 lead which was carried into halftime.

Beloit started the second half scoring to tie the game at 26:35 but three straight AU goals over the next four minutes gave the Spartans a three goal advantage, one they would not relinquish. Kenny Hughes scored the first two goals with assists from Taylor Arcivar and Colford. Rachel Cochran added an unassisted goal.

After a Beloit woman-up goal at 19:00, Hughes tallied a hat-trick with an unassisted goal only 16 seconds later. Beloit did put a scare into AU as they cut the lead down to one at 7-6 with two goals and 7:30 left on the game clock.

AU would score the games last three goals though including two from Hughes only 10 seconds a part at 6:42 and 6:32 to play. Chloe Madison assisted on the second goal. Madison then capped off the scoring with an unassisted goal with just over two minutes to play.

Spartan freshman goalkeeper Allee Samuel earned the win with nine saves. AU dominated play out shooting Beloit 34-16 and won draw controls 13 to 5.

With the win, AU is now 11-6 overall. Next action for the Spartan women's lacrosse comes on Saturday, May 2 when they play in the Championship game of the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament. AU takes on Concordia University Wisconsin. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Mequon, Wisconsin.
