For a third consecutive season the Aurora University men's lacrosse team found themselves in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championships second round "Sweet 16" with this NCAA trip finding the Spartans at Lynchburg College in Virginia. AU fell to the nationally ranked Hornets 19-8.

The Spartans out to a quick 2-0 lead, shocking the hoe Hornet crowd. Both AU goals came from sophomore Jason Koziol with assists from seniors Max Obriecht and Garret Rosiek.

After the AU goals though, Lynchburg showed why they came in ranked No. 4 in the country, rattling off five unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead. Obriecht would snap the run with 2:55 to play in the first, putting the score at 5-3.

Lynchburg ran off another run of 8-0 well into the second quarter with Max Matthai scoring to end the run with an assist from Trevor McNamara.

As the first half came to an end, AU found themselves down 14-4.

The third quarter started off very slowly as neither team managed to find the back of the net until Lynchburg did at 9:07. AU would respond with a pair of goals from Bailey Smith, Rosiek assist, and Zach Henry. Lynchburg then scored twice in the final 13 seconds of the quarter to lead 17-6 after three.

In the fourth, Koziol picked up a hat trick as a bright spot on the night with a third assist from Rosiek as well and Koziol then concluded the AU and game scoring after two Hornet goals for the final score of 19-8. The goals gave Koziol four of the eight Spartan tallies on the night.

With the loss, the AU men's lacrosse team finishes the 2015 season with a 14-8 overall record, a third straight NCAA Sweet 16 appearance and Midwest Lacrosse Conference regular season and tournament championship.
