Terrific free-throw shooting lifts AU over Wisconsin Lutheran

The Aurora University women's basketball team snapped a winless streak against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors, defeating the visitors 71-52 behind a solid night at the free-throw line and a total team effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans opened the game on a 5-0 run and led 7-2 midway through the first period.
Wisconsin Lutheran rallied to take a lead but the Spartans finished on another 5-0 run to lead 17-12 at the end of the first period.
In the second Aurora jumped out to an eight point lead with a 7-2 run.
Once again the Warriors rallied with a 7-0 run to cut into the AU lead.
The Spartans out-scored WLC 8-4 in the final 2:22 to lead at halftime 32-27.
The Spartans methodically opened up a 13-point lead in the third period and finished the third session up eight at 53-45.
AU maintained a six point advantage with 3:30 to play as the score was 58-52.
In the final 3:30 of the fourth, AU ran off a 13-0 run, going 13-of-14 from the free-throw line.
 
BEYOND THE BOX
The AU women's basketball teams defeated Wisconsin Lutheran for the first time since February 11, 2010, a span of 10 games.
AU shot a staggering 92.9-percent from the free-throw line, going 26-of-28.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Mallory Cast scored 19 points and had four rebounds.
Bethany Dorrington recorded 19 points and four assists.
Anna Roszkowski had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Molly Rosenow had nine points and five assists.
 
FOR THE FOES
Jen Dowden recorded 16 points and had seven rebounds.
Maddy Elrod scored 10 points and had six rebounds.
