Early penalties do in Spartans in loss to Northland

A pair of penalties, one in the opening period and the second early in the second period did in the Aurora University Spartans as they lost to the visiting Jacks of Northland College 4-0 on Friday night at the Fox Valley Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Northland got on the scoreboard first with a play goal by Karson Kuntz assisted by Michael Berens at 14:25 of the first period.
An early second period power play was converted again by the Jacks Karson Kuntz. He was assisted by Kyle Kuntz and Berens at 2:14.
Less than one minute later Northland's Colby Spoonemore scored on a one timer with assists from Lucas DeBenedet and Brandon Fehd.
The scoring in the game was capped off by the Jacks at 17:07 of the second. Henry Berger scored with assists from Josh Racek and DeBenedet.
The third period was scoreless for both teams.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Aurora recorded 23 shots on the night compared to 33 for Northland.
The Spartans had six penalty minutes to only two for the Jacks.
Northland was two of three on the power play.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Jared Rutledge led the Spartans with 29 saves, several of the one on one variety.
Conor Jonasson won 13 of 21 face offs for Aurora.
 
FOR THE FOES
Kuntz led Northland with two goals, both on the power play.
DeBenedet and Berens each had two assists.
AJ Smith recorded 23 saves for the Jacks.
