AU women take overtime to knock off Eagles

The combined efforts of Anna Roszkowski, Bethany Dorrington and Mallory Cast  pushed the Aurora University women's basketball team to a 56-51 overtime win over Edgewood College on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first period was back and forth with the teams tied 9-9 at the end of the period.
In the second period, after the Spartans made the first basket, Edgewood went on an 11-0 run to put them up by 9 with 4:36 to play.
Aurora rallied for a 5-0 run to bring themselves within four going into halftime, trailing 20-16.
Early in the third quarter Edgewood extended their lead to nine again with a 5-0 run.
AU answered with an 11-0 run to take the lead 27-25 with 1:17 to play.
At the end of three periods, Edgewood led 28-27.
The Eagles maintained the lead in the fourth period but led AU by no more than four points.
With five seconds left in the game, AU's Mallory Cast hit two free throws to send the game to overtime.
Anna Roszkowski had four points and four rebounds in the fourth to give her a double-double through regulation.
The teams exploded in overtime, scoring 29 combined points (18-13 AU) in overtime.
Two three's early in overtime from Cast followed by a Roszkowski lay-up with just under two minutes to play gave AU a three-point lead.
Edgewood tied the game on a three of their own before the Spartans went to the free-throw line.
In the final 1:20 of the game, AU shot 10 free-throws, making nine with Bethany Dorrington going six for six.
AU held on to win in overtime, 56-51.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Anna Roszkowski had her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 17 rebounds.
Bethany Dorrington recorded 20 points with seven assists.
Mallory Cast scored 13 points (nine in the overtime) and had three assists
 
FOR THE FOES
Rachel Pope scored 12 points and had seven rebounds
Zoey Dougherty had 13 points and three assists

Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 when they travel to Concordia University Chicago. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in River Forest, Illinois.
