Spartans use team effort to defeat IIT

The Aurora University Spartans took on Illinois Institute of Technology in the final non-conference contest this season and the Spartans defeated the Scarlet Hawks in Chicago 79-68 behind a well balanced team effort that saw four Spartans in double figures.

RECORDS: Aurora University 9-3 overall; Illinois Institute of Technology 3-7 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After trailing in the opening minutes of the game, the Spartans used a 12-2 run to take the lead which they would not relinquish the rest of the night.
With 7:39 to play in the first-half, AU opened up an 11 point lead at 26-15 on a three-point field goal from Tyler Hall.
IIT then used a 14-4 run to cut the AU lead down to one at 30-29 with 4:50 to play.
The teams went to halftime with AU leading 40-35.
AU opened the second-half on a 9-2 run to open up the games largest lead to that point at 12, 49-37.
The Spartans continued to hold a double digit lead and with 6:22 left held the games largest lead at 19, 71-62.
AU coasted to the win, 79-68.

FOR THE SPARTANS
Tyler Hall had 15 points and nine rebounds.
Kalmon Stokes had 14 points.
Nick Kladis had 13 points.
Jovon Griffin had 10 points and five rebounds.
 
FOR THE FOES
Sam Rarick had 29 points and 15 rebounds.
Anhony Mosely had 22 points.

Next action for the Spartan men's basketball team comes on Saturday, January 9, 2016 when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium.
