AU women advance with shootout win in NACC Tournament

The Aurora University women's soccer team hosted Concordia University Chicago in the opening round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Spartans and Cougars battled to a double overtime draw and into a shootout with the Spartans rising above the Cougars 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first round game against the Cougars of Concordia Chicago was physical one as both teams didn't allow a goal until the shootout.
The Spartans deflected a cross right by the post midway through the first half and shortly after that they send a wide open shot just over the cross bar.
Just before halftime the Cougars had an opportunity to score but missed a shot just wide of the goal.
Three minutes into the second half Concordia Chicago has a chance to go ahead but miss a shot just wide.
AU's Caitlin deRuiter made a huge save with 13 minutes left to keep the score tied.
With 20 seconds left in regulation a player from each team is given a red card so both teams played the remainder of the overtimes with 10 players.
The Cougars goalie made a great save in overtime to keep the game scoreless and force a shootout.
The Spartans won in a penalty kick shootout 3-1 to advance in the NACC Tournament.

Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Tuesday, November 1 when they play in the semi-final round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Spartans will travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering with game time set for 7:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
