Spartans find unfriendly foe in Pioneers

Homecoming weekend 2016 concluded with a Sunday afternoon soccer tilt on Vago Field with the Aurora University men hosting the University of Wisconsin - Platteville Pioneers. The Pioneers were not kind to the Spartans as AU lost 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 12th minute of action, Spartan Xavier Ortiz just missed the right corner of the Platteville net from 25-yards out for the first good scoring chance of the game.
Two minutes later, UW-Platteville drew a penalty in the box and AU goalkeeper Zach McFarland made a tremendous save on the attempt keeping the game 0-0.
The Pioneers scored first in the 36th minute on a through ball. This was the only goal of the first half for either team.
Early in the second half (50:05) Collin Foreman scored off of a cross from Edgar Soto to tie the game 1-1.
A nice save from the Pioneers goalie on a Spartan Nick Cataldi shot keeps the score tied at 1-1 with 30 minutes left to play.
Less than a minute later UW-Platteville scored off a header from a corner kick to take the lead 2-1.
With just over 5 minutes left to play the Pioneers scored their third goal to give them a 3-1 lead.
