Spartan women head to Christmas break with win at Rockford

The Aurora University Spartan women's basketball team used a fourth quarter rally to defeat the Rockford University Regents 70-64 as the team heads into the Christmas holiday break.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams battled in the opening quarter with the Spartans controlling the lead over the final six minutes of the session.
Led by six Allie Reichert points, the Spartans led 19-16.
AU opened the second on a 5-0 run behind a three-point field goal from Alex Hultine.
The Spartans continued to lead in the quarter and went into halftime up one at 33-32.
The third quarter saw the Spartans go 0-for-10 from the field to open the period while Rockford took off on a 12-0 run and led 44-33 with 3:45 to play before Spartan Brianna Williams scored on a jumper in the paint to end the Spartan cold stretch.
A Reichert lay-up just before the quarter ended sent AU to the fourth trailing by five at 49-44.
Behind a 7-2 run to start the fourth, AU tied the game 51-51 just 1:35 into the final quarter.
Over the next seven minutes the teams traded baskets and the lead before Spartan Meija Rabi made a lay-up with just over a minute to play with an assist to Alyssa Brems. Th 65-64 lead was the final lead change of the game.
A lay-up and free throw from Brianna Williams and pair of free throws from Adriana Ramirez sealed the Spartan victory in the final seconds.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Adriana Ramirez had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Alyssa Brems scored 14 points with nine rebounds and four assists.
Allie Reichert had 12 points and three assists.
Meija Rabi had nine points and five rebounds off the bench.
Brianna Williams had nine points and three assists off the bench.
