The Aurora University volleyball team is taking part in a special community service project in conjunction with the Aurora University Campus Crew from Love Your Melon. Love Your Melon is an apparel brand that is run by college students across the country on a mission to give a hat to every child battling cancer in America.
 
"We wanted to reach out to help children who were in need," said Spartan Head Coach James Seitelman. "We heard about Love Your Melon and thought this was a great idea since we would be able to help raise awareness for childhood cancer while having a chance to go to a children's hospital and donating the hats ourselves to the children."
 
ABOUT LOVE YOUR MELON AND THE AURORA CAMPUS CREW
Love Your Melon started with college students who wanted to make a difference in their community while inspiring other students to do the same. There was a goal set up on October 22, 2012 to give a hat to every child battling cancer in America.  College students had 400 hats made as a class project while selling a deal of buy one, give one.  That weekend the hats sold out immediately.  In December, 2012 these college students were able to go to their first donation event at a local children's hospital.  The smiles of the children were what made these students start the Love Your Melon hats.  Spending time with the children was a great experience and now they have the opportunity to share the same experience with us.  In the first year of Love Your Melon there had been 2,500 hats sold and the following year over 35,000 hats were sold.  Right now Love Your Melon is on track to sell hundreds of thousands of products. 
 
With this happening, the Aurora University Campus Crew can help the effort to make sure that every child diagnosed with cancer in the country continues to receive a nice warm hat along with a memorable experience.  This year's new goal is to donate over $1 million to fighting childhood cancer. Anyone can help join us on our adventure.  Help make a difference in the lives of kids undergoing one of the worst times imaginable.
 
With every product of Love Your Melon sold, 25% of net proceeds go to CureSearch for Children's Cancer to fund research initiatives on track to beat childhood cancer completely.  CureSearch funds research initiatives nationwide to help end childhood cancer.  CureSearch's has the best panels of doctors and researchers. Not only do 25% of proceeds go to CureSearch for Children's Cancer but another 25% of proceeds go to the Pinky Swear Foundation to provide immediate support to the children battling cancer along with their families.  This foundation will help those families who have children battling cancer.  A lot of families face a large amount of debt and often, bankruptcy.  The Pink Foundation provides these children with support and their families as well by covering their mortgages and rent payments.  They also give gas cards and help fund therapeutic programs in the hospitals.
