The Aurora University hockey team traveled to the Lake Forest College Foresters on Saturday night for the second game of the two-game series and third match-up of the season. AU scored on an early power play and did not look back as they ran away from the Foresters to win 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENEDOn a power play in the first period,
Tom Greene lit the lamp with assists from
Rudolfs Kalvitis and
Trevor Hoth.
Led by 15 saves from
Jared Rutledge and a penalty kill unit that successfully killed three penalties including a 5-3 the Spartans led 1-0 at the first intermission.
Shortly after the second part of the 5-3 ended in the second period, AU's
Tim Santopoalo pushed the AU lead to 2-0. 1:40 into the second, he scored with assists from Greene and
Rihards Marenis.
Lake Forest took advantage of another AU penalty 6:17 into the second to tally a power play goal and cut the AU lead to one, 2-1.
AU did kill off another penalty in the second and at the end of two periods, AU led 2-1.
Just as he had done early in the game after a successful penalty kill, Santopoalo scored. This time on a break-away which was unassisted.
Leading 3-1 late, the Spartans forced Lake Forest to empty their net and AU took advantage. With 1:13 to play,
Anthony Pnewski put the puk in the back of the net to solidify the AU victory.
The strong AU penalty kill and goaltender
Jared Rutledge came up strong on the night and AU won 4-1.
FOR THE SPARTANSJared Rutledge had 38 saves, allowing one goal in the victory.
Tim Santopoalo had two goals, the game winner and one on a break-away.
Tom Greene had one goal and one assist, the goal came on AU's only power play.
Anthony Pnewski had one goal, an empty net goal.
