Spartans see lead disappear late in tie with Marian

The Aurora University men's hockey team saw a two goal disappear in the final minutes of the game as they tied Marian University 4-4 on Senior Night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Marian got the scoring started when Connor Martin buried a rebound 7:55 into the first period.
AU went on the penalty kill following a bench minor late in the opening period and were able to capitalize. Drew Doyon buried a break-away to tie the game 1-1.
Just before the period ended, the teams got locked together, sending two Spartans and two Sabres to the penalty box.
Midway through the second period and on the power play, AU struck. Tic-tac-toe from Jonathan Carlson to Gregory Sauers and Chris Nowacki buried the shot home. Spartans led 2-1.
After the Spartans killed off a pair of 5v3 chances, Marian tied the game up at two just before the period ended. With 28 seconds to play, Scott Milnthorp scored.
Heading to the second intermission, the teams were knotted up 2-2 with Marian holding a wide margin in shots, 37-to-11 over the Spartans.
Early in the third, AU scored on another short-handed situation, this time Brendan Logan scored on an assist from Luke Picek.
With just under eight minutes to play the Spartans took a two goal lead when Liam Stirtzinger grabbed a loose puck and buried it for a 4-2 AU lead.
Marian pulled the game to a one goal contest with 4:08 to go.
Playing without a goalie with an empty net, Marian tied the game with 26 seconds to play in the game, sending the contest into overtime,
Neither team found a quality scoring chance in the overtime session with the game ending in the 4-4 tie.
