15th annual Project Linus blanket drive returns to AU

On Thursday, March 2, 2017 members of the Aurora University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Spartan Athletic Training Student Organization (SATSO) will sponsor the 15th annual AU Project Linus campaign.

The two organizations welcome members of the Aurora University community to take part in the 90 minute blanket making drive from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium. Participants are welcome to make a single blanket or multiple blankets in the 90 minute time frame. The goal for the 2017 drive has been set at 75 blankets with the hopes of far exceeding the goal.

In the 2016 Project Linus event, a group of AU athletic teams and athletic training students, athletic department staff, the physical education department, general AU community members and elementary students from the AU STEM made fleece blankets, 92 total, in about 90 minutes of work that were donated to the West Suburban Chapter of Project Linus.

The blankets made in this year's drive will once again be donated to Western Suburb Chapter of Linus for eventual distribution to those in need. Project Linus mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."

To reach the 75 blanket goal, fleece or monetary donations are welcome! If interested in making a donation (each blanket has an approximate $20 value) for the Project Linus event, contact Nicki Pieart (npieart@aurora.edu) or any member of SAAC.
