The Aurora University men's track team looked to build off of a solid first meet by having an even stronger performance at the 2017 Wheaton Invitational. The Spartan men placed 3
rd out of 10 teams with 124 points, while winner North Central scored 96 points. This was a day where the junior class stepped up big. Junior
Anthony Barrios became the first ever Spartan to break the illustrious 4 minute barrier in the 1500 meter race; Barrios placed 3
rd overall with a school record setting time of 3:59 with a furious finish in the race. Junior
Brandon Pichen broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.65m, which also earned him 1
st place in the event and has him ranked 5
th nationally. Another excellent 1
st place performance was of Junior
Nick Majka who earned a mark of 6'7.5m, which currently has him, ranked 11
th nationally. Dominating as he always does, Junior
Ryan Njegovan by placed 1
st in both the shot put and the discus, where he is respectively ranked 6
th and 1
st in the nation. Finally Junior
Bobby Cooks placed 1
st in the 110 hurdles with a mark of 14.27 (wind assisted), which is currently the 2
nd fasted time in the nation.
