Spartan Juniors lead charge at Wheaton Invitational

The Aurora University men's track team looked to build off of a solid first meet by having an even stronger performance at the 2017 Wheaton Invitational. The Spartan men placed 3rd out of 10 teams with 124 points, while winner North Central scored 96 points. This was a day where the junior class stepped up big. Junior Anthony Barrios became the first ever Spartan to break the illustrious 4 minute barrier in the 1500 meter race; Barrios placed 3rd overall with a school record setting time of 3:59 with a furious finish in the race. Junior Brandon Pichen broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.65m, which also earned him 1st place in the event and has him ranked 5th nationally. Another excellent 1st place performance was of Junior Nick Majka who earned a mark of 6'7.5m, which currently has him, ranked 11th nationally. Dominating as he always does, Junior Ryan Njegovan by placed 1st in both the shot put and the discus, where he is respectively ranked 6th and 1st in the nation. Finally Junior Bobby Cooks placed 1st in the 110 hurdles with a mark of 14.27 (wind assisted), which is currently the 2nd fasted time in the nation.

Next action for the Spartan men's track and field team comes on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15 when they compete in the Benedictine University relays. Meet time is set for 12:00 p.m. on Friday and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in Lisle, Illinois.
