Spartans skate past Sabres in offensive explosion

The Aurora University men's hockey team scored a season high six goals while making seemingly easy work of the Marian University Sabres on Saturday night. AU won a program best fifth game 6-3 at Marian.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU got on the board first and on the power play. 29 seconds into the extra man chance, Jack DeMatteo scored with assists to Liam Stirtzinger and Rihards Marenis.
- 1:30 later, Tony Pnewski scored to give AU a 2-0 lead. Tim Faulkner and Marenis assisted on the even strength tally.
- AU took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
- Early in the second, the Spartans found themselves on the penalty kill. Despite being a man down, AU increased their lead to 3-0. Stirtzinger scored with an assist to Aaron Roschinsky.
- A short time later the Spartans went to the power play and capitalized to take a 4-0 lead. Marenis picked up his third assist in 26 minutes of play as he assisted the Ashton Amaya goal.
- Marian scored twice late in the period, once on the power play to send the teams to the second intermission with a 4-2 AU lead.
- Early in the third Spartan Brendan Logan scored his first of two goals in the third period. His first tally at 2:14 was assisted by Tony Pnewski and his second goal at 14:17 was unassisted.
- Marian scored a late goal but Spartan goalie Josh Boyko and his defense held on to the 6-3 lead and victory.
