Bailey sets rushing mark as Spartan ease past Eagles in NACC football action

The Aurora University Spartan football team defeated rival Benedictine University on the road 41-24 on Saturday afternoon. Spartan sophomore running back Tyran Bailey rushed for 295 yards in the victory, the 295 yards sets a new single game mark for rushing yards.

BEYOND THE BOX
- Sophomore running back Tyran Bailey set an AU record for rushing yards in a game with 295.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU received the opening kickoff and after the Spartans were forced to punt, the AU defense returned the favor on the Eagles.
- The second series for AU was all about Tyran Bailey and the ground game. Bailey ran five times for 88 yards.
- With 6:53 remaining in the first quarter, Bailey got the scoring started by capping off a 92 yard drive with a six yard touchdown run. AU led BU 7-0.
- Benedictine responded with a 24 yard field goal to make the score 7-3 with 2:04 remaining in the first.
- On the drive that ended the first and started the second quarter, AU increased their lead to 13-3 with 12:51 remaining in the second quarter after a five yard touchdown run from Halen Miller.
- After the defense got the ball immediately back forcing a three and out, the offense went back to work.
- The AU lead increased to 20-3 when Gavin Zimbelman connected with Danny Logiurato on a 38-yard strike and score.
- Two drives later, Zimbelman and Logiurato connected again, this time from 31-yards and AU led 27-3.
- Just before the half, BU scored and converted a two-point conversion to make the score 27-11 AU heading to halftime.
- BU scored on the first drive of the second-half and AU now led 27-17.
- The ensuing drive saw the Spartan offense score seven points of their own with a 56 yard rush from Tyran Bailey. AU led 34-17 with 10:29 remaining in the third.
- A BU touchdown on the second play of the fourth quarter returned the contest to a 10 point game. AU led 34-24 with 14:53 remaining in the game.
- AU closed the door on any BU comeback chances two drives later/ Bailey rushed for his third touchdown of the game on a 53 yard play. AU led 41-24 with 10:49 remaining.
- The Spartan defense held the Eagles for the remainder of the game and AU went on to win 41-24.
