HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans and Falcons played and up and down open game over the first part of the first period with Josh Boyko and his Falcon goalie opponent making a few stops.
- AU then struck first at 9:23 with Liam Stirtzinger scoring what would hold up as the game winning goal. He was assisted by Jack DeMatteo on the play.
- Three minutes later, Shawn O'Malley made the score 2-0 Spartans. Jacob Holmers added a helper.
- Boyko and the Spartans took a 2-0 lead to the first intermission.
- 35 seconds into the second period, the Spartans started to take complete control of the game. Cameron Beaudry found his own rebound and buried the second chance and AU led 3-0. Drew Doyon and Dylan Rauh had assists on the play.
- The AU defense and Boyko kept the shutout in order as they went to the second intermission leading 3-0.
- AU killed off a couple penalties early in the third period and then struck when they went to a power play.
- Brayden Sampson buried the shot on the power play with assists to Roberts Baranovskis and Larry Jungwirth.
- Well after the play, a Falcon player took a cheap shot on Spartan Drew Doyon and received a five minute major and a game misconduct, putting the Spartans back on the power play for an extended time.
- With 4:40 to go and time slowly running down on the major power play chance, AU scored again. Holmers scored with assists from Anthony Tzveyn and Riley Doyon.
