AU men come up short against Trine

The Aurora University men's hockey team fell in a tough NCHA contest at home on the Fox Valley Ice Arena ice 3-2 to Trine University on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening 20 minutes of action saw both teams head to the power play on multiple occasions with neither able to take advantage.
- With 54 seconds left in the first period Trine struck. A break away chance was able to get past AU goalie Josh Boyko.
- The teams headed to the first intermission with AU trailing 1-0 while leading in shots on goal 12-11.
- AU was able to tie the game 6:17 into the second with Jack DeMatteo getting the equalizer off a Drew Doyon assist.
- 2:16 later the combo connected again to give AU a 2-1 lead. This time Doyon scored with an assist to DeMatteo and Rihards Marenis.
- Just over a minute later Trine scored the first of two goals in a span of 51 seconds to take a 3-2 lead.
- That score would remain over the final 9:30 of the middle frame.
- The third period was scoreless and had no penalties as both the Spartans and Thunder went up and down the ice.
