Offense on display as Spartans pound Muskies

The Aurora University baseball team swept the NACC home opening doubleheader with Lakeland University as the Spartans pounded out a combined 33 hits on the day. AU won the opener 16-0 in 7 innings and 8-1 in game two..

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME ONE 
- AU used a Spartan staple to score a run in the first with a double steal first and third play which scored Jett Wedekind.
- The Spartans added a run in the second with AJ Gill scoring on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.
- As the offense started scoring early, Kyle Blunt and the AU defense kept Lakeland quiet.
- Two more runs crossed in the third, all with two outs and courtesy of a big Lakeland error that extended the inning.
- The fourth saw AU score four more runs and start to approach the mercy rule range. Bryce DeSpain had a two run double as the big hit of the inning.
- AU blew the game wide open in the fifth. The Spartans hit around, knocking out 10 hits and scoring eight runs. An Austin Wiskow bunt base hit started the inning off and also started a run of eight straight AU hits without an out being recorded.
- AU won 16-0 with the game ending in seven innings.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME TWO
- The Spartans continued to click on offense in game two as they scored in every odd inning the hit in.
- Jeff Mayes led off with a hit by pitch and scored on a Bryce DeSpain single.
- In the third the Spartans hit around again with Davis Purviance singling to start the inning and he scored on batter later on a Cole Davis triple. Four more hits plated four more runs and AU led 6-0 after three.
- The Spartans added runs in the fifth and seventh.
- Lakeland got their lone run of the day in the eighth but AU won easily 8-1.
