The Spartans fall to the Lakers

The Aurora University men's basketball team lost a close match to Holy Family College. The Spartans dropped the non-conference match-up 68-65.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half started with the Lakers and the Spartans trading baskets. The Spartans led 7-6 with 14:14 remaining in the first half. 
- The Spartans then went on a nine point run, extending their led to 16-6 with 11:21 left in the half. 
- As the first half played out, the Spartans continued to hold their lead and with 6:42 to play in the half, were up 27-18 on the Lakers.
- The Lakers closed out the second half on a run, cutting the Spartan lead to four at halftime.
- AU lead at halftime 35-31.
- The Lakers continued to apply offensive pressure early in the second half, and took the lead 40-39 with 17:04 left in the second half.
- AU bounced right back and the Spartans resumed the lead on a layup by Bailey Vance.
- The Spartans and Lakers would then battle back and fourth for the next eight minutes, with the lead changing multiple times. With 9:32 left to play in the game, the score was knotted at 48-48.
- As the remaining 10 minutes ticked away, AU and Holy Family continued to trade baskets and with under 2:00 left in the game, the Spartans trailed 64-62.
- With 1:21 left in regulation, the Lakers hit a three point basket, extending their lead to 67-62.
- Bailey Vance was fouled, hit two free throws, and the Spartans trailed by three points, 67-64 with 1:08 to play in regulation.
- With under one minute to play in the game, the Spartans were able to force two Laker turnovers, but could not capitalize on the mistakes.
- As the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Spartans were forced to foul. The Lakers converted on both free throws and ultimately Holy Cross would hold on to the lead, winning 69-65.
