Spartans open NCHA play with road shutout win

The Aurora University men's hockey team scored early and often while shutting out the Lions of Finlandia 7-0 in the 2019-2020 NCHA opener in Hancock, Michigan.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans got started scoring 3:46 into the game and didn't stop until the final horn sounded.
- Defenseman Brayden Sampson scored the game winning goal at 3:46 in the first with assists going to Anthony Yurkins and Grant Bondy.
- The power play struck next at 9:19. Liam Stirtzinger got the goal with Larry Jungwirth and Danny O'Donnell getting the helpers.
- Stirtzinger struck again just over four minutes later. O'Donnell and Anthony Tzveyn picked up the assists.
- AU led 3-0 going into the first intermission.
- The Spartans scored twice in the second period at 8:22 and 11:54.
- Adam Keyes tallied the first goal of the second period from O'Donnell and Riley Doyon.
- Anthony Tzveyn scored the second with an assist from Lordanthony Grissom.
- With the game all but in hand, AU added a pair of goals in the third period.
- Riley Doyon scored on the power play midway through the third with assists to Larry Jungwirth and Danny O'Donnell.
- Connor Chilton wrapped up the seven goal out put late in the third with assists to Keyes and Doyon.
- Josh Boyko and the AU defense smothered the Lions offensive chances as Boyko would finish with a shutout victory.
