SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME ONE
- AU threatened with two on and no outs in the fourth but came up empty with the inning ending on a double play.
- The games only run would cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning with Wartburg manufacturing a run.
- The Spartans managed only three hits in game one and lost 1-0.
SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME TWO
- Game two saw much more offense with AU falling behind 3-0 in the first inning.
- AU tied the game in the third with five singles scoring three runs.
- In the fourth, a two-run home run from
Josie Bachtell gave the Spartans a 5-3 lead.
- In the sixth, a big two-out error led to three Wartburg runs scoring and AU trailed 6-5.
- AU answered right away, tying the game in the sixth with
Elaine Walker hitting a double and later scoring on a wild pitch.
- The Spartans took a 7-6 lead in the top of the seventh with Walker driving in
Brianna Lewis.
- Wartburg was able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning as they got a pair of two out hits.
- In the top of the eighth the Spartans took the lead again at 8-7 with
Ashley Pittman singling to score
Heather Vetter.
- The Spartans though couldn't hold the lead as Wartburg scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to win 9-8.
