Spartans shutout Inferno to sweep doubleheader

The Aurora University softball team didn't allow a run over 12 innings of a doubleheader sweep of Alverno College, winning 4-0 and 11-0.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME ONE
- The Spartans put the first runs of the game on the board in the fourth inning. AU got five singles to score three runs.
- With a 3-0 lead, AU pitcher Stephanie Renner held Alverno off the scoreboard, scattering four hits while striking out eight.
- AU added an insurance run in the sixth with three more singles.
- The Spartans would win in a shutout 4-0.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME TWO
- AU got the offense going right away in game two, scoring three times in the first inning. Three singles including a two-run varoety from Sam Owens.
- Alverno loaded the bases in the bottom of the first with no outs but Spartan pitcher Hannah Tomasko settled in and struck out the next three batters to end the inning.
- The Spartan bats took the momentum and added four runs in the second. Three more singles, two walks and an Inferno error led to the four runs.
- In the third, Elaine Walker led off with a solo home run and AU led 8-0.
- Walked would strike again in the fourth with a two run shot while Owens and Anni Wilson hit doubles.
- The Spartans would go on to win 11-0 with Tomasko allowing two hits and striking out nine.

UP NEXT
Next action for the Spartan softball team comes on Sunday, April 7 when they are scheduled to host Concordia University Chicago in a NACC doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m. on Bedrosian Stadium at Spartan Athletic Park.
